Checking In: Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel

Checking In: Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel

At around 9:30pm we checked into Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel in Portland, Oregon. We had a late drive from Seattle and were hungry, grumpy and ready for bed. I’ve checked into many hotels before but this one was very different. Parker assisted us with checking in and was so very personable and energetic. I firmly believe that your first impression of a hotel starts with the person who checks you in. Well Parker, you did it. You have left a lasting impression in my heart. Because of the wonderful staff and accommodations Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel stands as one of the best hotel stays we have ever had. Thank you.

Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel is situated just steps away from the water and the very iconic Hawthorne Bridge. It’s lodge inspired but not at all with poor taste. It’s got the signature Kimpton style with its modern finishes throughout. This Kimpton is also pet-friendly, so bring your puppies along!

Are you the type that needs to workout during your stay? No worries. They offered a 24/7 fitness center and a yoga mat in every room. I was very impressed with their gym simply for the design. I’ve seen gyms that are a small square room the size of my office with white walls and one treadmill. This is nothing like that. The design of the hotel carried over to the fitness center and they had multiple equipment types and weights.

Every morning you are able to help yourself to a free tea and coffee service in the lobby and in the evenings they have a wine happy hour. The day we were there they also included craft beers which made Gauthier a very happy guy. I had my Pino Noir and he had his IPA- It was a win-win before our dinner reservation.

THE ROOM (From $281.00/night)

Our Riverfront Fireplace Suite was one to remember. It comes equipped with a real wood burning fireplace in a very large living area. Our room was immaculate, spacious, clean, modern and cozy. The views of the river also did not disappoint.

King Tide Fish & Shell has me still dreaming about their oysters. We started with a dozen of the freshest oysters I have ever tasted. After that, the team brought out a few other dishes for us to get a full taste of the menu. Hamachi Tostadas, Steamed Mussels, Crab Cakes, Lobster Tortellini Swordfish and one massive chocolate cake at the end… Let’s just say we had some leftovers.

By the end of it we had tried some of the dishes on the menu. Everything was so fresh and most is made with local ingredients. Besides the delicious food options, once again the staff blew me away. They were so attentive, knowledgable and friendly. Special thanks to these team members for making our night at King Tide one to remember: Melissa Huegel (Restaurant Manager), Lauro Romero (Head Chef), Roberto Torres (Sous Chef), David (Server) and Josh (Server Assistant).

Again, I know I have mentioned this before but the staff is one of the most important parts of running any type of business. I felt so comfortable from the second I got to Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel. From the valet attendant  who parked our car probably 10 times, to the ladies and gentleman behind the front desks, to the wonderful staff at the restaurant and the housekeepers who don’t get enough credit for their work– Thank you. It’s time we start recognizing the people who are in the background of our adventures. Thank you so much for making my trip to Portland a memorable one.
