Picture this: Your overly priced taxi pulls over to drop you off at your destination. An iron gate separates you from a short walk to the shore. You have reached “Oppenheimer Beach”.
Named after the father of the atomic bomb, Robert Oppenheimer this little slice of now public heaven sits amongst a row of other famous beaches known as the north shore.
Oppenheimers beach cottage still stands, and is free to the public. The seclusion was unreal. The two of us practically had the beach to ourselves for the most part and we enjoyed every second (maybe a little too much).
The beauty and seclusion of Oppenheimer Beach made this one of my favorite on the Shore. A simple cab ride up the shore from the ferry station takes you right to this unbelievable beach and is one not to miss if you are every on the island of St. John.
